Writtle College Dog Club
Our second year at Writtle College. Bob looks forwards to his visits and can direct you to the local walk through the woods. It is quite funny to see Bob during the half time break in the obedience class. Once I've finished my drink he concentrates very hard on thought projection until I give in and take him for a short walk/game of Frisbee before the second hour.
Agility
Club Corner: The barn at Writtle is quite dark and we were unable to get any clear pictures of the dogs in action (not wanting to risk flash photography while the dogs were performing). Instead here are a few shots of the heap of dogs waiting their turn for the next round.
Toot Hill Show: Although not actually at Writtle, when we visited Toot Hill Show there was a course set out so Anne took Bobby on a lap. It was rainy, dull and very windy but Bob acquitted himself well for his first ever go at outdoor agility.
Bob's Classmates for the Obedience Training
Exercises: Here some of the dogs demonstrate that with or without their owners they are steady in the sit or the down position.
Archie was doing well (and probably still is) when he moved to Lincolnshire early in the year. It is always a shame when one of the characters leaves our little pack, we all wish him well in his new home.
Bailey is one of Bob's classmates at agility.
Ben is one of the old guard. Like Bob he really comes on a Sunday to spend a couple of hours with his friends.
Cassie is a typical Jack Russell. Cassie and Rosie come along with Nick and Karen.
Rosie has calmed down a lot. She was always very capable (which is a testament to Karen and Nick as Rosie is deaf) but she is now more tolerant of the other dogs. We get to see the collie smile a lot less often.
Hamish is still a puppy, less than a year old. Given that he is so young he is a real star which shows the time and effort that John has put into training. Once he gets over the need to play with the cones during exercises he will vying with little Taffy for top dog.
Mack started the year on the sidelines as he was considered aggressive. However, once he settled into the 'pack' and, just as importantly, once his owner started to relax more, he took his place in with the other dogs. Now he is trusted to do many of the exercises off lead.
Scamp has progressed brilliantly this year. He passed his bronze on the same day as Bob and he challenges for best dog around the agility course. Anne also manage to snap one of his more unlikely skills as he climbed a tree in Hylands park.
(Big) Taffy has now retired. Both he and Eric had big operations earlier in the year. While both have made good recoveries Taffy has slowed down to the point where he is more comfortable at home taking leisurely strolls with Eric than being frogmarched around in heelwork.
(Little) Taffy is still the best dog in class for obedience. (Exactly the same description as last year!). Little Taffy also had an operation this year - his was on one of his legs. He has made a full recovery and to look at him you'd never guess that there had ever been a problem.
Dennis is housemate to little Taffy and coming from the same training regime is very good at the obedience exercises. (The is also another, younger Yorkshire terrier in the house - we can only marvel that Lorraine has time to keep them all in order).
Zeus managed to break off from one exercise this year when his dad's mobile phone rang. He recognised the ring tone and trotted off to see who was calling.
