Writtle College Dog Club
In June of this year the dog club moved from Wood Farm to Writtle College. It means we have to be slightly more organised as it is now ten miles away rather than just outside of Ongar However we can now quite honestly say that Bob is a college student.
Agility
Hylands Park: When the dog club moved locations it was not possible to re-start the agility classes immediately. As a move to keep the group together, and keep the time free in everyone's diaries the group started to go for a walk together each week. In the summer it helped that there was a dog friendly restaurant in Hylands Park were they could have lunch at the end of their walk. The walks were so popular that once the agility classes re-started the walks still continued after class. While we've no pictures of Bob in action this year here are a few of him and his classmates enjoying their walk in Hylands Park.
Bob's Classmates for the Obedience Training
Buddy is a miniature poodle with a 'proper dog' hair cut. Until recently he was a hearing dog and when he retired Val took him in and started with him at class.
Bumble belongs to our trainer Annette and her daughter Jasmine. Jasmine sometimes brings Bumble to class but Bumble is so laid back that she prefers to lay down rather than do any of the exercises.
Ben is one of the old guard. Like Bob he really comes on a Sunday to spend a couple of hours with his friends.
Charlie came to class because he was aggressive with other dogs. Fortunately we've not seen any evidence of that so far.
Cleo now does alternate weeks training with us and training with the gun dogs. Unfortunately for her she is frightened of the noise of gun shots - which is not the best quality for a gun dog!
Digby and Merlin came as a team. They have the same mother who is a Jack Russell, the story goes that she got out on her own one time and no-one knows who the father was. We've not seen them since the move to Writtle.
George is an Irish Terrier. He's going through his equivalent of the teenage years at the moment so it is not certain week to week how he will perform.
Hogan is Annette's dog and has proven to be a challenge in the past but now he is mellowing with age.
Honey was a very quick learner during her period with us but was put off by the extra ten miles when we moved to Writtle.
Jackson is Rod Stewart's dog but he spends most of his time with Beverly - who brings him to class.
Molly and Archie. Molly comes along on alternate sessions to Lance (AKA Genghis in Eastenders). Both the Irish Wolfhounds get on well with Bob because they are used to Archie at home.
Scamp is officially the same mix as Bob, Collie crossed with Jack Russell - but the result is quite different. One thing that is the same is their obsession with toys, especially squeaky toys. Bob has calmed down a little but Scamp is a lot younger so has a while to go. Even so, during his time with us at class he has changed significantly (for the calmer).
(Big) Taffy is now 13 years old and suffers a little with his joints. He still comes along most weeks to meet up with his friends and to take part in most of the exercises.
(Little) Taffy is still the best dog in class for obedience.
Tara and Heidi(Tara on the left) Tara has come on from the puppy you see here at the end of June to be bigger than Bob. Tara's owner Anne is a trainer but they sometimes join our class as students. Tara also goes walking with the pack in Hylands Park on a Tuesday. After one altercation where Bob is said to have 'mugged' Tara, and had her pinned to the floor, they have been friends and are happy playing together. Heidi attends college but is in the other class to Bob.
Zak is seen here with Clive and with Tracy. Clive retired from taking our class when we moved to Writtle which is when Annette took over because she drew the short straw.
