Bob's year in (roughly) chronological order. |
Wood Farm Dog Club |
Bob has spent a second year at the dog club, here are a few of his friends.... |
Moving house |
Final clearance of Anne's Mum's house. Bob was determined not to be left in Gainsborough.... |
so determined that when the back of the van was loaded he got into the front and wouldn't budge. We had to lift him out to take him on a last walk before we departed. |
Santa Claws |
I love my Auntie Rosie but.... |
did she have to make me wear this? |
Pet Passport |
Let me tell you - that blood test hurt! And the indignity of having my leg shaved....... |
Still it meant I could go to France... hey Fifi! - Je t'aime! |
Bonio |
Here we are in April, still finishing the prizes from last Christmas. These bonios are mighty big for a little dog. (The first one took a long time because Bob thought it was a toy at first - after all how could we expect him to eat something that size?) |
Bobby Greenfeet |
Throughout the summer Bob was always on hand to help with cutting the grass. His version was to drop the ball in the path of the mower so that it had to be kicked out of the way as many times as he could get away with. Of course this meant running across the newly mown bits time and time again. Bob didn't just restrict himself to mowing and all outside jobs were accompanied by lots of opportunity to throw the ball for him - no wonder everything took three times as long as it should (apart from playing with Bob of course). |
Flowers & Vegetables |
Bob takes a keen interest in 'his' garden. Sylvester the cactus always puts on a good show and obviously loves its location in the poly-tunnel. It has flowered at least three times this year and Bob was there to check it out each time. |
Butternut Squash: In the spring, when we had an organic butternut squash, Anne decided to scoop the seeds into a pot of compost to see if any of them grew. Most of them did leaving us with lots of plants to give away and a good crop of delicious butternut squashes for ourselves. This beauty weighed in at 1.6kg - all from the seeds which are normally discarded.
It wasn't until reviewing the picture that we spotted that Bob had been making his own quality assessment by licking the squash. |
Heidi |
We took Karen's dog Heidi out for a walk one day. This posed a couple of problems: -
Firstly - Heidi is deaf so she couldn't hear us calling for her. Instead Anne had to sprint along to get ahead and then use sign language.
Secondly - Heidi started off sort of white, until she found a very muddy stream bed - unfortunately we couldn't call her back in time because of the first problem.
No matter, both dogs enjoyed their walk.

Summer Holiday |
Just resting my eyes, man! |
Junior - having a cooling off period! |
Molly and Bob, with Junior following on their early morning walk. Although it looks as if Junior was lagging she covered at least three times the distance of the other two on the morning walks and rejoined the rest of us just a few times between start and end. |
You've read Three Men in a Boat - well, here's the Scottish version "Three Dogs in a Boot" |
Toot Hill Show |
We had had a disappointing time at a local dog show when Bob was snubbed by a very snobbish group of owners because he was not a pedigree (despite the adverts describing it as a fun day for all dogs). How could they when Bob was freshly bathed and brushed, and one of the best behaved dogs there by far? Never mind - it was their loss.

Football |
Safest paws in the game! |
Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club |
One of David's colleagues, Patricia, is a senior official in the Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club. Hearing about the treatment we'd had at the Toot Hill Show she invited us along to their annual fun day which was being held just a few miles away. We went along expecting to stay just a short while to meet the Pyreneans and then disappear, but we were made so welcome that we stayed all afternoon. |
"See - told you I was the same size"
Bob with Molly (one of Patricia's three dogs). |
Bob was encouraged to join in most of the games and came away with five rosettes - what a happy dog. |
Some of the games included owner participation, as you can see from Patricia's efforts. |
Kennel Club Good Citizen |
At the Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club fun day they were holding tests to kennel club standards for the good citizen dog scheme so we entered Bob for the bronze level and he passed with flying colours (the trickiest bit was whether I could answer the owners questions correctly as I was only given the crib sheet a few minutes before the test).
Frisbee |
Also to come from the Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club fun day, as a raffle prize, is Bob's most favourite toy ever. He already had one frisbee which was his former favourite but this one is somehow far better. |
You only have to hint that you might be taking the frisbee out of his rucksack and it is enough to get Bob to jump up to your shoulder height. |
Biker Bob |
A quick check at the beginning of the year showed that, small as he is, Bob was not going to be able to travel in a modified tank bag - not if I was going to able to see the controls as well. Plan 'B' took a little longer to get ready. The trailer has been simply modified by removing the lid, putting in a bag of sand to steady the ride, and a carpet for comfort, plus an anchor point for a harness. We only managed a few short trips before the change of clocks plunged us into darkness in the evenings but he really seemed to enjoy having his head in the wind as we travelled. We’ll carry on the modifications in the spring and hopefully he’ll be happy to come along on the bike for some of our summer outings.

Cool dudes get cool wheels |
Told you man.... |
This ride is awesome!... |

First trip to France |
October was our first trip to France making use of Bob's passport. He soon settled down for the long journey. |
In France dogs are welcomed in the hotels and restaurants. In our hotel we discovered late in the week that the cleaners were waiting each morning for us to go to breakfast so that they could clean our room while Bob was still in there - and they could play with him. He was described by the staff as 'adorable'. |
We discovered that Bob must have had some mountain goat in his ancestry because he loved clambering over any rocks. Also - much to our dismay - he loved to lean right over the edge for a look around. |
And the rest... |
Always happy to see visitors, here is Bob making Ann feel at home (or is that the other way around?) |
Everyone needs a cuddle sometime |
And somewhere to stretch out in comfort. |
And a chance to jump up and lick the cameraman while he thinks you are going to sit quietly! |
